ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – An 18-year-old student was arrested on Wednesday for shooting and injuring four people during a fight at a high school in Dallas. Police said Timothy George Simpkins fled Timberview High School in Arlington after a shooting Wednesday morning and went with silver Dodge Charger.

The Arlington Police Department tweeted after the shooting that Simpkins was taken into custody without incident charged with aggravated assault with multiple guns.

Arlington Assistant Chief of Police Kevin Colby told a news conference that the shooting was caused by a fight in the classroom. According to him, two people were shot and two were injured. He said least three of the wounded were students three of the four wounded were taken to hospitals for treatment.

“This is not an accidental act of violence,” he said. “This is not someone who is attacking school.” Timberview serves approximately 1,900 students in grades 9-12. The large complex was opened in 2004.

A few miles away, members and staff of the First Baptist Church Mansfield in Texas planned to contact the affected.

Mike Sellers, executive pastor of First Baptist, said the church’s pre-school education minister had a son who was in the room during the shooting. The boy managed to escape from school before being locked up and called his family to say he was fine.

“We are all shocked,” said the vendors, who said the church plans to meet tonight for Wednesday night activities, as it does every evening.

“Wednesday is our student night,” he said. “We will continue and meet and pray with them, walk with them and help them with their work. We have an incredibly great God who has a plan. We will talk to them about it.”

The vendors said the church’s high priest contacted school officials to learn ways they could help, including providing financial assistance to those seeking advice for the trauma.

“This is our society. We want them to know we are here,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Tate Springs Baptist Church in Arlington has issued a special announcement called 6.00. prayer meeting after the shooting.

“As a church, we represent the Kingdom of God in a fallen world,” said the church, “as a church in Arlington, we are trying to represent His Kingdom, especially in our local community.”

Tate Springs pastor Jared Wellman told the Baptist Press that the incident “reminds us that man has fallen in a dark way and is desperate for a new creation that only comes from Christ.”

Wellman said he didn’t believe the church had a member who attended Timberview High School, although many go to schools in the same area, and the church’s young pastor goes to school.

Our hope is show the Kingdom’s hope to the people, especially when evil manifests itself as armed violence against the most innocent members of our society. Wellman said.

Following the news of the shooting, parents gathered about 5 miles from campus to be reunited with their children, who were taking a bus from school. Among them was Justin Rockhold, who texted his ninth-grade son to say he was fine.

Rockhold said he served in the military and kept his head down to instruct his son from the experience and remained safe. When asked if he thought the shooting had taken place, his father said his military training also reminded him of life-threatening truths.

Obviously in America – the world live in today – its always something. its in your mind, Rockhold said, adding that his prayers were with the wounded. I’m happy for my son to be safe today.

The shooting came days after a shooting at a Houston rental school that injured an administrator. The deadliest school shooting Texas, in May 2018, when 17-year-old armed with a shotgun and pistol opened fire on Santa Fe High School near Houston, killing 10 people, mostly students.
