Sherry Rehman directs preventive measures to deal with the effects of monsoon rains.
Sherry Rehman, Minister for Climate Change, has directed all concerned departments to take all precautionary measures and pursue a coordinated strategy to deal with the potentially disastrous effects of monsoon rains.
In her tweets on Tuesday, she stated that Pakistan will receive monsoon rains by August, with Punjab and Sindh receiving above-average rainfall.
In reference to the emergency situation in India and Bangladesh caused by the onset of monsoon rains, the Federal Minister warned that there is a clear threat of urban flooding in major cities such as Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, and Islamabad.
She also stated that flooding in rivers and streams is more likely. She stated that all departments involved have been asked to take precautionary measures as soon as possible.
She also stated that the Ministry of Climate Change has issued a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) warning for Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
