Governor Omar Sarfaraz Cheema said on Thursday that if CM Hamza Shehbaz Sharif is given “a subedar and four soldiers,” he will arrest him. Governor Omar Sarfaraz Cheema had urged Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa to play his “role” in the implementation of the Constitutional framework in Punjab the day before.

Omar Sarafarz Cheema, in a message on Twitter, said that the crisis-stricken region had been taken prisoner by force. The PTI supporter said that mainstream political parties’ silence on the constitutional situation in Punjab is “very concerning,” and that President Arif Alvi’s son, Awab Alvi, will be the next chief minister of Sindh if such behaviours become the norm.
“During my political struggle, I always advocated for a neutral umpire,” he added, adding that the neutral umpire follows the same rules for both teams. Since the PTI nominated him as governor to replace Mohammad Sarwar at the height of the crisis last month, Cheema has been at the centre of controversy in the country’s largest province. He drew the wrath of the Lahore High Court for refusing to give the oath to Hamza Shehbaz, who was later forced to do so by National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
Governor asks COAS to fulfil his “role”
Omar Sarfaraz Cheema had written a letter to COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa the day before, encouraging him to play his part in the province’s constitutional implementation. He had urged the army chief to do his part in restoring public trust in the provincial and federal governments. He also sent copied the prime minister and the president on his letter.

‘Nothing can stop me from putting a stop to your son’s unconstitutional actions.’
Earlier, Omar Sarfaraz Cheema had written to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif about the province’s political and constitutional crisis.
The Punjab governor vowed in the letter to protect the country’s Constitution by using all of his skills and abilities. “No power can prevent me from stopping your son’s unconstitutional actions,” the governor told the Prime Minister. Cheema had called Usman Buzdar’s resignation “controversial,” accusing the PML-N of securing the support of the PTI’s dissident lawmakers, adding that the defectors were even paraded in front of the media.
“Hamza Shahbaz has taken advantage of his father’s position as Prime Minister’s son.” The governor stated that the Punjab Assembly secretary had informed him of the law violations relating to the “fraud election” for the position of chief minister. “You, as Prime Minister, dragged the country into a political crisis by abusing your powers,” Cheema said. “You, your son, and Maryam Nawaz are nominated in criminal cases,” the governor said, adding that it was the country’s “bad luck” that the Prime Minister and Punjab Chief Minister were appointed to key positions while on bail.
