Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been “declared a foreign-aided party,” according to Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ruled that the “party did indeed receive illegal funding.”

“The PTI and Imran Khan were discovered receiving foreign aid… “The PTI has been declared a foreign-aided party, and only formal procedures remain,” she said at a press conference in Islamabad on Saturday.

The electoral watchdog stated in a written order issued on August 2 that the Imran Khan-led party received millions of dollars in illegal funds from countries such as the United States, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and Australia. “The office is also directed to initiate any other legal action in light of the Commission’s order,” stated the 68-page decision, a copy of which is available to The Express Tribune.

The ECP also declared that 13 ‘unknown’ accounts were linked to the party, and that PTI chief Imran Khan’s submissions were ‘inaccurate and incorrect.’ Marriyum claimed that former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan received funding from foreign nationals and foreign companies to harm the interests of the country.

“He sows political unrest in the country… severing ties with friendly countries in order to isolate Pakistan on the global stage,” she claims. The federal minister also stated that, in contrast to PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, who was convicted in the assets beyond means case by using “entire state power and using Black’s law dictionary,” the funding case against the PTI was based on “concrete evidence” and was not about “technicalities.”

According to her, Imran submitted a “fake affidavit” to the top electoral watchdog about his party’s finances and remained silent for eight years about allegations that his party received funds from foreign nationals. “You have been found guilty, and you can no longer flee on technical grounds.”

According to the information minister, Imran’s reality was revealed following the ECP verdict, and he should be punished for violating the Constitution and lying to the nation. She claimed Imran used charity money for political purposes and dragged Pakistanis living abroad into domestic political disputes for political gain. “By causing instability, you have harmed the country.” “Can you explain why you compromised on the Kashmir issue?” Marriyum inquired.
